DIY Eye Cream for Dark Circles

Eyes are the most sensitive part of the whole body. Our eyes mainly portrait our mind, soul, and inner health. Even an hour of lack of sleep can be noticed with restless eyes. Our body’s heat can be identified with the redness of the eyes. So almost every minor issue of body change is reflected through the eyes. This also has some impact on eyes health. Thus, taking care of eyes become the most crucial health routine in our day to day life.

Here I have explained a simple DIY cream for dark circles and reduce eyes puffiness. There are many store-bought cream-based and gel-based eye creams are available in the market. But it can have some chemicals which will adversely affect our eyes when used for a long time.

Thus, it is important when we select products for the eyes. The product may be anything, It could be a cream, gel moisturizer, Kajal, or mascara. we should be very cautious when it comes to the eye to take care of it.

This DIY cream has the following Ingredients.

  1. Aloe vera gel
  2. Cold-pressed castor oil
  3. Vitamin E oil
  4. Cold-pressed sweet almond oil
  5. Few strands of saffron
  6. Orange/Lemon essential oil

1. Aloe Vera gel :

Aloe vera gel is a very good product to use under or eyes. It hydrates the under eye tissues and reduces the puffiness when used consistently. While choosing aloe vera gel, make sure it is colorless and fragrance-free. We can also use natural aloe vera gel from the plant. But using store-bought gel gives more shelf life for this product. I have listed a few organic aloe vera gels that you can opt to make this eye cream.

2. Cold-Pressed Castor oil :

The next important key ingredient for this homemade eye cream is pure cold-pressed, hexane-free castor oil. Castor oil has ricinoleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid (1). This ricinoleic acid has anti-inflammatory properties (2) which mainly helps to reduce the puffiness and wrinkles of under eyes. Castor oil when used regularly helps to prevent under-eye fine lines and wrinkles that are caused by stress, overexposure to computers, and mobile screens. Castor oil also helps to grow eyelashes long and healthy.

Make sure you choose good quality cold-pressed castor oil for this DIY. It should be free from mineral oils, preservatives, and chemicals. Here are a few suggestions to choose from.

3. Vitamin E oil :

Vitamin E acts as an anti-aging and anti-oxidant when used for external skin application. This is thick in consistency than castor oil. This also helps in growing our eyelashes healthy and strong. Vitamin E also helps to reduce dryness of the eyes when applied to the eyelids. Its intense moisturizing properties help the eye tissues to regenerate from within for glowing and healthy eyes.

4. Cold-pressed sweet almond oil :

Almond oil which is rich in Vitamin E, Vitamin K and retinol helps to reduce the darkness around the eyes. Its high moisturizing properties seal the hydration in the eye tissues for a longer time.

Almond oil also has anti-inflammatory properties which help in reducing puffiness and under-eye bags. Always use high-quality cold-pressed sweet almond oil for skin treatments. Good sweet almond oil should have a badam fragrance with slight yellow. I have linked two organic quality sweet almond oil links.

5. Saffron :

Saffron, a well-known ingredient for almost all skin problems. It mainly helps in discoloring the darkness of under-eye areas. This amazing herb also has exfoliating properties, which helps to remove dead cells around the eyes. Removal of dead cells, in turn, helps the formation of new cells. Beware of duplicate colored saffron and always buy good quality saffron to get miracle results.

6. Orange essential oil :

Use a few drops of orange or lemon essential oils to have vitamin C in our cream. Vitamin C helps to soften the tissues and speeds up the rejuvenation process around the eye. Only 2-3 drops should be used and beyond which may irritate our eyes.

How to Do :

Take the following ingredients in the measured amount in a glass bowl.

  • Aloe vera gel – 2 Teaspoons
  • Castor oil – 1 Tablespoon
  • Vitamin E oil – 2 capsules or 1 Tablespoon
  • Sweet almond oil – 2 Tablespoon

Mix all these ingredients and beat them fastly with a spatula or spoon. At first, the product may appear frothy, Beat it for at least 3-5 minutes. You can get a thick white-colored cream (may look like mayonnaise). Then add 3-5 drops of orange/lemon essential oil and mix the cream. Then add a few strands of saffron and store everything in a clean preferable glass container. Storing DIY creams in glass containers can increase its shelf life.

This cream lasts well for 6 months at room temperature. At night, after cleansing face and moisturizer application, dot this cream in under eye area with ring finger and massage in an outwards circular motion for 2-3 minutes. After application, this cream looks oily on the eyes, but that absolutely fine when it is used at night. For best results, keep the cream on the eyes overnight and wash with cold water in the morning.
